The hotel industry believes that reducing the capacity will increase private meetings

The hoteliers had been clear for days that they would again pay the consequences of an increase in covid cases, but they criticize that, four days before New Year's Eve, the authorities have not spoken clearly. Precisely, the lack of foresight caused the cancellations of dinner reservations to accelerate in the face of the uncertainty created for weeks. Manuel Vilar, from the Hotel Scala, acknowledges that his establishment worked "very well until the 5th", but from then on the reservations began to fall. They went from 790 guests for the dinner-dance on the 31st to just 80, a few days ago. With these data, they made the decision to cancel without waiting for the clinical committee's pronouncement. A similar situation was experienced in Los Robles, whose managers made the decision to cancel the dinner. They also did it to put an end to the uncertainty of not knowing what decision the Xunta would take or when, and above all, any downward modification of the schedule would mean, in practice, a covert closure.

Prudence led the management of the Real Aeroclub de Santiago to cancel its traditional dinner-dance, and they also did so to put an end to the uncertainty of not knowing what decision the clinical committee would make. Other establishments in Santiago were yesterday awaiting the conclusions of the meeting to decide between cancellation, modification of the conditions of the parties and even to decide whether or not dinners are limited to guests staying in hotels. This is the case of Araguaney and Puerta del Camino. In the hostel they already decided to reserve it for guests days ago.

La fiesta de Fin de Año se desinfla sin esperar por las restricciones

Thor Rodríguez, from the Compostela Hospitality Association, assures that the uncertainty created by “the lack of clarity in the measures” caused the sector to “resort to prior reservation with payment or not.” Reserves that are sold out, "so those who have a ticket will move from one place to another looking for a place that will not be there, or they will end up in private parties without control." Sergio Fernández, from Século XXI, spoke along the same lines, predicting that "50% two locals will pay or 31 if they reduce or capacity even more, people will go to private parties."

Only 2,500 people will be able to attend the bells of the Obradoiro

Only 2,500 people will be able to attend the Obradoiro party, organized by the City Council of Santiago. The square will be divided into zones, and it will not be possible to move from one to another, in order to reduce contacts. The use of a mask will be mandatory throughout the night, and to access the premises, the vaccination certificate must be shown.

The mayor of Compostela assured in an appearance that it will be studied if a distribution of previous invitations is made. Sánchez Bugallo justified his decision not to suspend the party on the fact that the Plaza del Obradoiro has 6,000 square meters, and in Madrid 7,000 people will be allowed access to the Puerta del Sol, with dimensions of 10,000 square meters. Regarding the invitations, he was doubtful, considering that 20% of the people who withdraw a free invitation for an event later do not attend it.

In any case, the mayor insisted that the final decision about the rules that will govern the New Year's Eve party, which will feature the Paris de Noia orchestra, will be adopted following the guidelines set by the clinical committee.

New Year's Eve clothes are hardly displayed and hairdressers lose 50% of December business

The cancellation of New Year's Eve events, the fear of contagion and the increase in cases is behind the sudden drop in appointments to go to hairdressers and beauty salons. Ermitas Silva commented, after pressing other colleagues, that the income of his union will fall between "25 and 50% in December", by losing clients who come for "special jobs. We stick with the regulars, but the extras these days all fall out." Silva insisted that the loss of income "is one more blow together with the maintenance of VAT at 21%, despite the fact that it was a provisional rate, which they do not move."

Another of the sectors affected by the cancellation of party favors and New Year's Eve dinners are textile businesses. By now, the windows should be full of sequined clothes, but they are not. One of the few with nightwear is N de Nube, in which they pointed out that customers prefer a dress that can be reused, and for resorting to an accessory, in the event that they have to turn it into the outfit.
