In Vélez, Santander, they prepare their suits for the long-awaited premiere of Encanto

The wait to see Encanto, Disney's new animated film inspired by Colombia, is finally over. This Wednesday, November 24, the official launch of the film was given in the country. For this reason, the people of Velez prepare their traditional costumes to show them off with pride, since the protagonist, Mirabel Madrigal, wears the skirt and blouse that represents identity and elegance for the municipality.

"It is a pride to be able to represent the art of embroidery in a suit as an image of the entire Province of Vélez", began Mery Cavanzo, the embroiderer in charge of the flagship costume.

With the story of the Madrigal family, who have fantastic abilities, the plot unfolds from Gabo's magical realism. The yellow butterflies, the arepa with cheese, the accordion and even the capybara are the icons that highlight what is traditional in Colombia.

All have agreed that it will be essential to wear the typical costume. This is how they will see the film in the cinema, an invitation made by the inhabitants of the municipality. Happy and anxious, they organize themselves to make this desire come true by discovering what Disney has prepared in this film for Colombians.

"As an artisan who has been embroidering these suits for more than 50 years, I feel very happy," says Lina Serrano. The embroiderer says that she will soon travel to Bogotá in the company of her relatives to see the film there.

However, the only drawback is that many will not be able to see the film soon, because as is known, neither Vélez nor the surrounding municipalities have movie theaters to be able to attend the first performances.

Mery Cavanzo says that she has contacted Disney representatives to give them the opportunity to screen it in the province, but this would only be possible until January or February of next year.

For now, from the Mayor's Office of the municipality, precisely the House of Culture, trips are planned so that groups of people can attend the large halls of nearby cities such as 'Bucaramanga, Tunja and Bogotá. Of course, wearing the typical costume or some garment that represents Vélez.

For this reason they are summoning the inhabitants to form the groups of those interested in seeing the film in the coming days. In addition, they are inviting other municipalities such as El Peñón, Puente Nacional and Albania to join this initiative. For now, they are waiting to obtain permission from Disney to make such a transmission.

The artisans also prepare their needles and threads to give life to the suit that the citizens want to acquire. Lina Serrano says that they have received orders for the blouse that Maribel wears, the making of which is more complex than it seems.

With a hand embroidery, in a very traditional way by the women of the region, the delivery of the blouse can take up to 20 days, because each detail takes time. Its price reaches approximately $350,000.

But the preparation of the complete costume reaches a price of $3 million, depending on its complexity, since it consists of a skirt, petticoat, nightgown and blouse.
