MBA&Education How to be a good professional and leave a good impression on bosses

Arriving at the first day of work is a very special moment, full of emotions and doubts, since you are the “new” one and you don't know the dynamics of the office. It is a moment where you have many feelings with you, because on the one hand you feel excited and on the other nervous, because you do not know what is the appropriate way to develop yourself to leave a good impression with both your bosses and coworkers. Due to their most extreme personal characteristics, with some bosses you will never have a second chance, which is why we must act in such a way that we achieve that great entrance.

The best way to present a positive personal and professional image to our bosses, especially at work, is to accept common sense and pay attention to detail. Many workers do not give importance to professionalism, and that is when one does not generate anything different to cause a better effect on the other. So if I don't make it my goal to make a good impression on my boss by demonstrating my high level of professionalism, it's likely that in some circumstances we won't make a good impression.

As we all know, our image must be impeccable and we must lead by example. In this way, we must follow the path of empathy and be able to create a good image from the personal to the professional. Although the professional profile and attitude are the most important in a job, our social and personal profile is also important. The image and how we are professionally are great factors that will, among many other points, demonstrate that our level of professionalism is of a high quality.

For example, it is very important to be a punctual person within our work, showing up without delays is important to leave a constant good impression. In the same sense, it is relevant to show up to work in the clothes that you feel most comfortable with, but always complying with the rules of good dress. Also observe the clothing of your colleagues, if the first day you were very formal and you realized that the department in which you work is more casual, change your clothing to feel more comfortable.

On the other hand, part of our strengths must be a positive and proactive attitude, we must approach our bosses and show them willingness to carry out any task. When you are delegated responsibilities, clarify all the doubts you have about it at the moment, so that you can then work independently. The latter is a behavior that is always expected from a good professional.

Being responsible, pragmatic, with a positive attitude, delivering efficient and high-quality results, are some of the behaviors that a boss expects from his collaborator. The key is always to put yourself in the other's place, that is, to be empathetic. When we put ourselves in "our director's shoes" and understand what he would expect from any collaborator, it is when one best meets expectations, that is, when he creates a better image towards him.

For this reason, we must have a high level of professionalism and work with humility with all the work groups with which we work together, in such a way that we can demonstrate who we are at work and what added value you can generate.
