Viral campaign to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day

The Spanish Down Syndrome Federation has launched a viral campaign to raise awareness of society about the reality of people who present this disability.Coinciding with World Down Syndrome Day, a spot chains will be broadcast in a dozen TV chains that tries to increase visibility and awareness with respect to these people.

The campaign explains Sofia's idea, a young woman with Down syndrome who tries to surprise her grandfather after realizing that she misses her youth friends.The girl plots a strategy and take advantage of social networks to contact the grandchildren of grandfather's former companions and organize a surprise encounter for the elderly.

The Federation highlights the will to bring light to the authentic way of being of the people, a large unknown syndrome, among many segments of society.And from a very human story, transfer the empathy that these people show with those around them, trying to do their best so that they are happy.

La entidad aprovecha el anuncio, también disponible en internet, para evidenciar “el enorme grado de inclusión, respeto y tolerancia hacia la discapacidad que tienen hoy en día los niños y jóvenes españoles”, como demuestra la complicidad entablada entre los nietos de esta historia con Sofía. “La felicidad no entiende de cromosomas”, añade la federación, en referencia a la trisomía, cuando las células tienen un cromosoma 21 de más generando esta discapacidad.

The chains that have confirmed their support for the campaign in a selfless way are Televisió de Catalunya, RTVE, Mediaset Spain, Atresmedia, Telemadrid, Canal Extremadura, Castilla-La Mancha TV, TV Principality Asturias, Radio Televisión Castilla y León, Radio Televisión de Galicia, RTV Canarias, RTV Ceuta and RTV Murcia.

'WE ARE THAT WAY'

Paralelamente, el canal de pago A&EA&E estrena este martes, 22 marzo, 'Somos así' (22.55 hours), documentary series in which seven young people with Down syndrome explain their dreams to the cameras.Each one faces different challenges, but everyone has a story to tell.

Production, composed of six episodes, presents a rare television perspective and celebrates diversity with humor and honesty.
