The 34,705 vehicles that were registered in September represent an increase of 13.3% compared to August, when 30,630 units were marketed. Although the figure marks a recovery in sales, it is still below the volumes of last year: it means a drop of 3.9% compared to the same month of 2019, according to the Association of Automotive Dealers (Acara).

So far in 2020, 249,224 patents have been granted, 34% less than last year. The daily average for sales between July and September was 1,054 units, some 359 units less than the daily average for those months last year.

The most striking fact is that the best-selling 0 km are manufactured in the country and are not among the cheapest on the market. The best seller was the Fiat Cronos, which displaced the Toyota Hilux from the podium.

If the breakdown of sales is done by brand, Volkswagen was the winner, with 5,969 units per month; followed by Toyota, with 4,559; Fiat, with 4,201; Renault, with 4087; and Ford, with 3,500.

Unlike what happened in previous months, in September the automobile segment had the best performance: sales grew 17.1% compared to August, although they were 7.8% lower than in September of 2019.

The growth registered in the ninth month of the year is due to the fact that many people decided to take advantage of the available financing opportunities. For example, the Fiat Cronos is achieved with 60-month credits to start paying just in 60 days.

According to the president of Acara, Ricardo Salomé, the situation led many people to make the decision to purchase a vehicle, taking advantage of very convenient opportunities that are still in force." "Due to the exchange rate gap, there are opportunities. Between having the dollars saved in the mattress and investing them in a car, for many Argentines the purchase of a 0 kilometer is still a business, which before was achieved at a higher price, "he said.

The average daily sales grew between 3% and 4% compared to August. 1,578 units were traded per business day. "It must be taken into account that September had 22 business days and August 20. The acceptable level of activity in September consolidates the trend that August showed. We believe that it will also be sustained in October and November, with which this 2020 pandemic, which It generates so much anguish, it seems that it is beginning to show encouraging signs, thinking about next year," said Salomé, noting that the industry is still waiting for stimulus measures.

The improvement obtained in sales encourages the prospects of ending 2020 with a volume of almost 300,000 units sold and 350,000 in case the reactivation measures are approved. "We have a structure for 750,000 vehicles. Today, we are working at 40% of our installed capacity for sale and after-sales. Argentina represents 1% of the world park," Salomé explained.

"We are making a great effort to preserve the size of the commercial network and not lose the investment we made to train the sales and after-sales teams. We are convinced that our sector can go further and be the protagonist of the recovery", recognized the president of the entity.

Acara's estimates could grow for 2021. Patents could rise to 450,000 units, as long as "the activity is promoted with specific measures."
